$60.00

Saturday, August 8, 2026

10 am - 3 pm

In-person at Jules’ Poetry Playhouse, Placitas, NM

Spice up your summer writing life with some inspiring collage poems!

We’ll write poetry inspired by our collage art

Collage art introduction and playing with collage as poetry

Jules will provide some history of poets that use collage, such as John Ashbery and Sylvia Plath, and her own creative process. We will review what collage and poetry have in common and how collage can inspire the making of poems.

Create your own collage, in whatever form you like. Collage-making materials provided.   Working with our hands helps our creative process as we think about what we might want to write about next.  Materials provided: cards, paper, envelopes, lots of collage materials, magazines, adornments, scissors, glue sticks and more. Time for making a card or two, or a larger collage piece.

Lunch break (walk the Poetry Playhouse grounds, labyrinth)

Poetry making

As poets we are “makers” and we will continue our composing with short poetry forms, such as haiku, haibun, a half-sestina, tritina, or free verse. Shorter forms allow the focus to incorporate a response to the collage. Short poems are provided as prompts with ample time for writing.

Assembling and sharing

As a class, we will review what we have created and the process of how collage art compares to poetry. Optional sharing of our art and poems.

Leave this class with your art project or card and a poem (or two!) in a supportive, playful, in-person class setting.

There will be breaks to walk the backyard labyrinth during breaks on the beautiful grounds of Jules’ Poetry Playhouse.

Includes all materials and handouts. Snacks and beverages provided. Bring a lunch if you like.

Doors open 9:30 am, be ready for class at 10 am

Directions and handout sent after registration.

Snacks provided including coffee, tea, water, chips, fruit, etc..
