Jules Nyquist had the honor of visiting Astrid Lindgren’s Näs Museum in Vimmerby, Sweden, in August 2019, along with her husband John Roche. She was hosted by her Swedish cousins. Jules will share her personal account of this experience. Astrid Lindgren lived to be 94 years old. The museum exhibit “The whole world’s Astrid Lindgren” shares her wisdom on children, writing, justice, life, and death. And of course, Pippi Longstocking!
Presentation and time for questions/discussion. (Aprx 45 min presentation followed by discussion)
“One day in March 1944 it snowed in Stockholm. As I (Astrid) was walking alongside Vasaparken, there was a layer of new snow on the slippery ice. I slipped and sprained my foot so badly I had to stay in bed for a time. To pass the time away, I started writing down the story of Pippi in shorthand.” -- from the museum booklet “The whole world’s Astrid Lindgren.” (2007).
